Asunción, Agencia IP.- President of the Republic Santiago Peña held a working meeting this Saturday with Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, to advance the establishment of diplomatic and consular relations between the two countries.
“Working together for a more integrated Paraguay,” President Peña said in reference to the meeting, during which they discussed Venezuela’s institutional process, economic strengthening, and joint efforts to combat transnational organized crime.
The head of the Executive Branch said the presidential meeting marked the start of a dialogue focused on citizens’ well-being and the potential restoration of diplomatic and consular ties between Paraguay and Venezuela.
Diplomatic relations between Paraguay and Venezuela were severed in 2025 after the Venezuelan Government, then led by Nicolás Maduro, broke ties with Paraguay following the Paraguayan government’s recognition of Edmundo González Urrutia as the winner of Venezuela’s 2024 presidential election.
Maduro is currently detained in the United States.
