Asunción, Agencia IP.- President of the Republic Santiago Peña met on Wednesday with Mónica Ager Jacobsen, Deputy Coordinator for Homeland Security, Terrorist Screening and Designation at the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Counterterrorism, with whom he stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat transnational criminal groups.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to transnational organized crime in the region and agreed on the need for coordinated efforts to counter the activities of these criminal groups.
They noted that these groups’ operations transcend national borders, making cooperation essential, as isolated actions are insufficient.
Also attending the meeting were Interior Minister Enrique Riera, Foreign Affairs Minister Rubén Ramírez, and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Robert Alter.
Jacobsen is visiting Paraguay to participate in the sixth meeting of the “Counterterrorism Transnational Forum” (CTTF), which will be held on September 16 and 17 in Asunción.
The forum is expected to include an assessment of the region’s transnational crime threat, an analysis of the financing of terrorist activities in the hemisphere, and discussions on the use of new technologies.
