Asunción, Agencia IP.- The international media outlet Infobae recently highlighted Paraguay’s economic strategy aimed at doubling its economy in the next decade, positioning the country as a potential engine of regional development within Mercosur.
The publication includes statements from the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Marco Riquelme, who, during a working visit to Rosario, Argentina, outlined the main principles of the Paraguayan model, which are based on investment incentives, macroeconomic stability, and the use of strategic resources.
According to the report, Paraguay seeks to consolidate its position as a key player in the regional production chain, moving beyond being a passive trading partner to actively integrating into the industrial chains of countries like Argentina and Brazil. In this regard, tools such as the maquila regime are highlighted, which establishes a 1% tax on exports and offers incentives for the duty-free import of machinery.
The article also emphasizes the country’s economic stability, highlighting indicators such as an average inflation rate of 4% in recent years, projected growth of nearly 7% by 2025, and low unemployment levels, as well as support from international rating agencies, which strengthens foreign investors’ confidence.
Regarding industrial development, the minister indicated that Paraguay aims to significantly increase the industrial sector’s share of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), rising from the current 19% to higher levels in the coming years, with a focus on strategic sectors such as the food industry, metallurgy, forestry, and textiles.
The analysis published by Infobae also underscores the country’s potential to leverage its surplus electricity, especially in emerging areas such as the digital economy and artificial intelligence, and its capacity to diversify markets toward Asia, the United States, and the European Union.
Furthermore, it highlights the strengthening of the bilateral relationship with Argentina and the importance of Mercosur as a platform for Paraguayan industrial growth, within a context of greater trade liberalization in the region.
In this way, international coverage highlights Paraguay as a country with favorable conditions for investment, sustained growth, and industrial development, which consolidates its position as a strategic and competitive partner in South America.
