Japan allocates G. 1.777 billion to implement three community projects in Paraguay

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Government of Japan will allocate approximately G. 1.777 billion (USD 304,363) to implement three new community projects in Paraguay through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects program.

The Embassy of Japan will sign the grant agreements this Thursday with Ambassador Katsumi Itagaki and representatives of the beneficiary institutions.

The projects will focus on improving access to drinking water, educational infrastructure, and drainage and road conditions in communities in the Cordillera and Central departments.

The Azcurra Sanitation Board will implement one of the projects in Caacupé, Cordillera Department. The initiative includes installing a 100,000-liter water tank and a 10-horsepower water pump, along with electrical connections, piping, a storage facility, and a perimeter wall with a gate to protect the infrastructure.

The project aims to ensure a continuous 24-hour supply of drinking water and is expected to benefit approximately 4,000 users.

In the Central Department, the Dr. Carlos Pastore Educational Center in J. Augusto Saldívar will receive support to expand and improve its infrastructure. The project includes constructing and furnishing a classroom and laboratory, as well as installing a 50,000-liter water tank, a pump, and the corresponding electrical connections.

The project will help address increased student enrollment and provide suitable spaces for educational activities, while also strengthening the supply of drinking water for the educational community. It is expected to benefit 580 students and 60 teachers.

The third project will be implemented by the Nueva Esperanza Caraguatay Association of Friends of Persons with Disabilities in the Cordillera Department and involves constructing a stormwater drainage system and paving roads with cobblestones in the district of Caraguatay.

The project will improve rainwater drainage, help prevent flooding, and facilitate both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It will also provide safer access to educational institutions, homes, and basic services for approximately 10,100 residents.

Cooperation for community development

The Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects program supports initiatives that address basic needs and improve living conditions in communities.

Through this mechanism, funding is provided directly to beneficiary institutions to implement projects that directly impact the well-being of the population.

Since this cooperation program was introduced in Paraguay in 1989, 440 projects have benefited from the initiative, mainly in education, health, and road infrastructure, with cumulative funding of approximately USD 28.593 million.
